MGI Tech Co., Ltd. (“MGI”), a frontrunner in advancing life sciences through cutting-edge technologies, has recently shattered records in sequencing applications by conducting successful sample testing atop Mount Everest using its state-of-the-art DNBSEQ-E25 and DNBSEQ-G99 platforms. Not only did these sequencers endure extreme conditions, but they also demonstrated exceptional performance, boasting high data quality, reliability, and stability.

Accompanied by a scientific expedition, MGI’s E25 and G99 sequencers embarked on a journey towards Mount Everest’s north ridge last week. Operating at an altitude of 5,200 meters, the E25, with its compact and portable design, facilitated sample testing for researchers, delivering high-quality multi-omics data. Notably, the E25 had previously ventured into the Mariana Trench area aboard the “Exploration One” research vessel, underscoring its versatility in conducting scientific research in diverse environments.

Operating under challenging conditions with temperatures as low as 5°C, which conventional sequencers struggle to withstand, the DNBSEQ-E25 performed admirably. A single SE100 sequencing run completed within 5 hours, boasting a Q30 value exceeding 90%, a minimal error rate, and output data of impeccable quality suitable for bioinformatics analysis.

The DNBSEQ-E25 stands out as a lightweight, user-friendly standalone sequencer capable of operation in any location. With a daily data throughput of up to 7.5 G, the E25 integrates advanced features such as a microfluidic chip, an integrated CMOS detection module, self-luminous dye, and built-in bioinformatics. Its swift setup process allows for operation within minutes, and it takes merely 20 hours to process PE150 from DNB to FASTQ data, ensuring rapid turnarounds and cost-effectiveness.

Similarly, the G99, renowned as one of the world’s fastest sequencers with mid-low throughput, underwent rigorous testing in extreme environments. Despite the challenging circumstances, including high altitudes, the desktop sequencer demonstrated precise temperature and humidity control, ensuring high-quality data output following more than six rounds of comprehensive assessments.

With total reads ranging from 116M to 134M and Q30 and Q40 values reaching 95% and 90% respectively, the G99 generated data suitable for subsequent bioinformatics analysis. Even in a 12-hour PE150 sequencing run, the G99’s performance rivaled that achieved at lower altitudes.

This groundbreaking feat holds profound implications for clinical and scientific research in plateau regions, spanning biodiversity research, ecosystem studies, paleontology, paleoenvironmental analyses, and plateau population genetics research. By leveraging compact sequencers like the E25 or ultra-fast platforms like the G99, researchers can expedite the decryption of pertinent plateau sample information while mitigating factors such as sample degradation.

Duncan Yu, President at MGI, remarked, “The exceptional performance of MGI’s E25 and G99 sequencers at high altitudes not only pushes the boundaries of sequencing technology but also underscores their potential as invaluable tools for future biomedical research in extreme environments. With our unwavering commitment to accelerating life science research and discoveries, we are dedicated to empowering researchers and scientists with the forefront of innovation.”

Dispelling conventional notions that gene sequencing necessitates highly controlled environmental conditions, MGI’s DNBSEQ-E25 and DNBSEQ-G99 sequencers, available worldwide, epitomize the company’s relentless pursuit of excellence as it continues to push the boundaries of technology.
