Microsoft has announced a significant update to its Copilot app for Windows 11, now available to testers registered with the Windows Insider Program. This update transitions the app from its previous Progressive Web App (PWA) version to what Microsoft describes as a “native” application, although the interface still appears to function as a web view of Copilot.

Key Features of the Updated Copilot App

  1. Native Experience and System Integration
    • The updated app replaces the PWA version and integrates more seamlessly into Windows 11.
    • Upon installation, the Copilot icon will appear in the system tray, providing easy access.
  2. New Quick View Access
    • Users can quickly summon the AI assistant with the keyboard shortcut Alt + Space.
    • The quick view window can be resized and moved to fit individual workflows.
    • Returning to the main Copilot app is as simple as clicking the icon at the top-left corner of the quick view window.
  3. Dedicated Copilot Key
    • For PCs equipped with a dedicated Copilot key, pressing it will open the main Copilot app window.
  4. Keyboard Shortcut Exploration
    • Microsoft continues to explore new options for keyboard shortcuts to enhance usability.
    • Note: The Alt + Space shortcut may conflict with other apps using the same function. Windows will prioritize whichever app is launched first.

New Features in the Update

  • Copilot Vision: Enhancements to the AI assistant’s capabilities.
  • AI-Powered Recall Preview: A feature preview aimed at improving user productivity.

Gradual Rollout for Insiders

The updated app (version 1.24112.123.0 and higher) is being gradually rolled out via the Microsoft Store to all Windows Insider Channels. Not all testers will receive the update immediately, as Microsoft is refining the experience based on feedback.

With this update, Microsoft aims to enhance the functionality and usability of Copilot, paving the way for a more integrated AI experience in Windows 11.
